There has been a lot of confusion around for who should lead the national side? It's the 5th or 6th time in current administration's tenure people are talking about captaincy change. PCB thinks Misbah-ul-Haq is the best choice, fans like Shahid Afridi and team coach Waqar Younis wants to groom young captain. Waqar believes that he [Misbah] is very fit and has done very well as captain but age usually catches up, so we need to groom a young captain. “Every cricketer who leaves is missed, like Imran Khan, Wasim Akram and then myself were missed and, of course, Afridi will also be missed,” Waqar said. “But there are other youngsters who will take their place.”

First of all, let's talk about Shahid Afridi, who was the captain of one-day until recently, refused to play under the administration of chairman Ijaz Butt. He is fan's favourite only. Nothing else ! I also talked about his callowness in the past. The former skipper has got nothing, but fans' backing. Shahid Afridi has played 325 ODIs scoring 6695 runs at an average of 23.49. For fans, he is a spellbinder due to his ‘combative’ style against every bowler of World Cricket and sometimes in captaincy as well. And latter is the reason why I hate him.

Misbah-ul-Haq took over that captaincy of Test after the dramatic exits of Shahid Afridi, who retired in Australia Test, and Salman Butt, who was involved in spot-fixing scandal in England tour in 2010. With Afridi refusing to play under the current administration headed by chariman Ijaz Butt, Misbah-ul-Haq is set to lead the national side in all three forms of the game from now on. Misbah-ul-Haq has appeared in 78 ODIs scoring 2225 with highest of 93* at an average of 42.78; much better than braggart Shahid Afridi. I agree Misbah-ul-Haq played too much slowly in World Cup semi, but what Shahid Afridi did there? Fans like the idea of one captain for all formats of the game, and Afridi can't be the captain of all the formats. Whereas Misbah-ul-Haq has the ability to lead the national side in all formats of the game. So, Pakistan must continue with a mature captain and he is one and only, in the current national squad, Misbah-ul-Haq.

Geoff Lawson, Pakistan former coach, believes that Misbah-ul-Haq is the only one who has the superlative capability to lead the national side. “He has a statesman-like demeanour which so many Pakistan captains have lacked and he handles adversity analytically not emotionally. He knows how to get the best out of players and he is a winner, note his outstanding domestic record as a leader.” Geoff Lawson on Misbah-ul-Haq, October 2010

Misbah leads from the front, and to do so for a feeble team, it is admirable. Pakistan former captain, Wasim Akram, has also acknowledged Misbah-ul-Haq's ability to lead the national side saying "Though Misbah has just a year or a half left in his career, but he is better choice for the captaincy".

I don't know why people hate such a wonderful guy? It's not Misbah's fault of what happened to Shahid Afridi or how Afridi behaved in the crunch moments. Misbah is a man with such wide ranging qualities (also holds a MBA in business management) that he could easily take up the coaching role or a board position once he retires form playing. There is no reason to hate your own player, and a player with matchless capabilities should be backed up to the hilt.

Wahab, Asad break social silence

Fast bowler Wahab Riaz and batsman Asad Shafiq break the social silence by using their Twitter accounts. For a moment, they might have thought that Twitter wasn't a social site :), but It'd be a bitter pill to swallow for both as Twitter is also a social website with more than 58 million monthly visits.

The new contract include a clause for 'no use of social websites while on tour'. "There was no fine or anything, they were just told to not tweet anything. There is a ban on social networking tools under the revised player code of conduct on tours so both were breaking it in a sense. But as they weren't tweeting cricket-related stuff it wasn't a big issue," a board official told ESPNcricinfo, cricket website.

PCB actually barred the players in the aftermath of Zulqarnain Haider controversy. Haider fled to UK to seek an asylum, though largely untraceable, kept the public informed through this status at one of the social networking site, Facebook.

Wahab Riaz even uploaded his photo from the team bus, but It was later removed from his twitter account. Under the new central contract, PCB has strictly prohibited the players from using social websites (Facebook, Twitter, Orkut e.t.c)

"Since it was their first offence they were reprimanded but if they do it again they will face heavy fines and may be suspension from some matches," the source said. Riaz and Shafiq have been the leading performers for Pakistan so far in the series.

He is Pakistan's maverick paceman and world's fastest bowler fans have ever witnessed in the cricket world - enigmatic Shoaib Akhtar, praised as 'spellbinding' by world's top batsmen, started his career with full-throttle but lost his beans in the twilight. The guy who was never scared of little-master Tendulkar and prevailed over him on many occasion due to his ability of bowling with full power.

Now Shoaib Akhtar has announced his retirement from the International Cricket and he won't be available to serve Pakistan after World Cup 2011.

“Yes, I will quit international cricket after the World Cup” the 35-year-old told AFP. “I have taken this decision after much thought. Pakistan’s last match in this World Cup will also be my last. I hope that will be the final on April 2.”

Some peoples believe that Kamran Akmal is responsible for Shoaib’s early-retirement. He would not have announced his retirement too early if Pakistan had not lost against New Zealand. Many also believe that Akmal is also responsible for his ‘resting’ after New Zealand game.

Akhtar, who made his international debut in 1997, took 178 wickets in 46 Tests, the last of which was against India at Bangalore in 2007. He is three wickets short of 250 in 163 one-day internationals and has taken 19 wickets in 15 Twenty20 internationals. He holds the record of cracking world's fastest delivery at 161.3 km/h.

Praised by allmost every batsmen who faced his music and every avid fan of cricket. Shoaib Akhtar dismissed Indian greats Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid off successive deliveries in the Calcutta Test which Earned him the nickname of “Rawalpindi Express”.

“We feel sad for Shoaib as he has been a very nice team-mate and we’ll always remember him as someone who always tried hard for the team and every player thanks him,” said skipper Shahid Afridi.

Former captain Ramiz Raja said he would like to remember Shoaib as a fighter.

“I would like to remember him as a tearaway bowler who with his strike-rate was a match winner on his day. He battled through injuries and controversies with a lot of heart throughout his career,” said Ramiz.

Intikhab also praised Shoaib’s decision. “He has done a fantastic job for Pakistan and bowled his heart out. I feel sorry for him today but he chose a graceful way, we need characters like him on the field,” he stated.

Coach Waqar Younis praised Shoaib’s decision. “I played with him and then coached him. He has been a great bowler for the country and served the team well. It is a nice way to leave the place for youngsters and that’s something we must appreciate,” he said.

Sarfraz Nawaz, another former Test pace bowler, said: “There is no doubt that Shoaib is one of the best bowlers of all times. He won many matches for Pakistan and was a nemesis even for the world’s top batsmen.”

My World Cup XI for Pakistan

Pakistan has played their 4 group matches and are at number 2 in Points Table with Kiwis leading the table. Though Pakistan have almost qualified for the the Quarter-final, but their squad selection has been pretty ordinary. I’ve selected my own Pakistan team; a pretty good one which can defeat any biggie in the World Cup.

My first opener is Ahmed Shehzad because of his aggressive attitude which is required by all most all openers in One-Day game. Above all, he is a young dashing opener from the city of Lahore. He recently scored his maiden ODI century against Kiwis at their home turf, but unfortunately induced the collapse in World Cup group match.

He will be joined by Muhammad Hafeez because he is only other regular opener in Pakistan side. Kamran Akmal can’t play here. So, just go with Muhammad Hafeez. He can get you off to a good start. Not only, he commence the innings, but can bowl as well; a pretty good option for an all-rounder.

At number 3, you need a competent batsman who can rotate strike consistently with his team-mate at the other end. None other than Younis Khan comes at at one-down. He is one of the finest batsman in current Pakistan squad at number 3, who can disturb any opponents by his consistency no end.

At number 4 comes one of my favourite batsman, Misbah-ul-Haq. He is one of the unflappable batsman, I've seen in Pakistan side since I joined The Cricket World in West Indies tour of Pakistan in 2006/07. He has got the technique to keep the the man at scoreboard busy by rotating strike no end. Two in one package, who can bat long without losing his enormous wicket.

Umer Akmal comes at number five slot because he is suitable for all conditions, whether It's a crunch time against big team or playing against minnow, he enjoys his game. His go at the every ball shows that he doesn't lack bottle. He just needs to avoid hook shots on spinners.

I first gave this slot to Kamran Akmal, but his feckless performance with that bat and gloves against New Zealand dropped him to 8. Then, I thought of Afridi at number 6, but Abdul Razzaq's thunderous 109 against South Africa last year in UAE earned him this slot. His gutsy 109; the innings which convinced me that he can halt the collapse of team. So, one must keep him at number 6 to keep batting line vehement.

The skipper Shahid Afridi gets number 7 because he is playing as a bowler rather than as batsman. He has proven his form, too, though not in batting but in bowling by taking 15 wickets in the tournament so far and is leading the top-wicket takers list. He can help the team in crunch times by his batting too through his violent batting style.

After that comes butter-finger keeper, Kamran Akmal; elder brother of Umer Akmal and ne'er-do-well guy. A player who is more like a kamikaze pilot than player these days; seems to be indulge in hara-kiri while batting. So, he will slot in at six. I hate him, but he is in my playing XI for the team is without any specialist wicket-keeper; not like him.

Umer Gul is my only choice to share new ball with Akhtar. A guy full of beans whose yorkers don't respect the batsman facing the music, a man experienced in rattling the wood-work behind batsman. He can play a vital role in the first 10 overs of the innings.

Shoaib Akhtar known as the Rawalpindi Express is the obvious choice to lead pace attack for my Pakistan playing XI. He holds the record of bowling world's fastest ball at 161.3 km/h. A full throttle guy who deceives the batsman capriciously. He, alongwith Umer Gul can win us the World Cup in absence of Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir.

Saeed Ajmal will join the skipper in spin department, because of his variation in every delivery he bowls. His main weapon is 'doosra' which he uses to chafe his opponent team batsmen.

World Cup defining moment for Pakistan - Shoaib

Shoaib Akhtar has called the upcoming World Cup his last, claiming it to be defining moments for Pakistan Cricket and perhaps of his own career. In a characteristically free-wheeling chat, Shoaib reaffirmed that he wanted to stay fit throughout, and end the tournament with the trophy in hand.

"I want people to realize that still, very honourable people play for our country."

"Is this the twilight of my career? Yes. It is very special, playing in the sub-continent's World Cup," Shoaib said in Dhaka. "I am not sure about how long I'm going to be playing, but I will try to make sure it is full of memories".

"My personal target is to play every match and to leave 45-50 days after winning the World Cup," Shoaib said. "Obviously there's a huge difference between being 26 and 36. I have experience now but at the same time, I'm still bowling very quick, touching 145-150 kph easily." Shoaib used several adjectives to explain his team ranging from "dangerous", "the most balanced" and the one having the cause it needs, but what stood out was him using the word "hurt" to describe the side.

"Obviously we are a very hurt side, whatever has happened in the last year or so. Pakistan needs a situation to gather themselves, and playing in India and Sri Lanka in the quarterfinals, that is going to really motivate us. I think the crowds, the situation, what happened to us, whatever the team has been through for the last six-seven months, that will inspire us. We are a very dangerous side but a very hurt side."

"We need to win at any cost, the team needs a situation, and what better situation than the World Cup. I think this is a defining moment for Pakistani cricket.

Shoaib's personal motivation for this tournament comes from proving people wrong, not just about himself, but the team too. "I wish Mohammad Amir was playing right now, I would have retired easily but it is not happening."

"That's what motivates me to come and play my last World Cup. I want people to realize that still, very honourable people play for our country."

Shoaib said that Pakistan's ability to swing old and new ball both ways is their strong point. The main advantage for us is reverse swing, that's where I think Pakistan team's strength lies. We have the best combination of reverse swing and new-ball fast bowlers. I think we can manage to put it out right," Shoaib said, adding that the slow nature of the wickets might yet hamper the fast bowlers but will assist the batsmen.

The 2009 Twenty20 World Cup triumph was perfect for the situation at the time in Pakistan, but shoaib firmly believed that if they can do it again this time, it could provide the fans of Pakistan Cricket with more than just heroes or a trophy. "Pakistan needs to win this World Cup to bring back cricket to Pakistan, the charm back to country. People of Pakistan are missing cricket, they are dying to watch players from all over the world playing against Pakistan."

United Pakistan seek World Cup glory

Shahid Afridi has laid down the markers for those who would underestimate Pakistan in this World Cup. They are, he said, the 'most dangerous side in the World Cup', and has pointed to the mix of youth and experience that has drawn parallels, however tenuous, with the side that won the tournament almost 20 years ago.

"We all know how important the competition is for my country," Afridi said in his first World Cup press conference in Mirpur. "This is a message for the other teams: No one can underestimate us. And when I said dangerous, [I meant] don't underestimate the Pakistan team. We are with a very good bunch of youngsters and experienced players. It is good to see Kamran Akmal back in the team, Misbah [ul-Haq] too is in good form and so is Younis [Khan]. We also have two genuine spinners and a fast bowler like Shoaib Akhtar."

While Imran Khan did not have to rebuild a side ravaged by controversy, there are a few similarities between this Afridi-led team and the triumphant side of 1992. Imran was missing a devastating opening bowler in an injured Waqar Younis, and his team also had a mix of young talent and experience.

Afridi, though lacking Imran's tactical nous, is capable of firing up his side and after their twin success in New Zealand last month (1-0 in Tests and 3-2 in ODIs); they are high on confidence and team spirit. "Pitches around the world are very similar. I think as we performed well in New Zealand conditions, we'll feel more confident on Asian tracks.

"We've gone through a very tough situation. As a captain I'm very happy because we were trying to rebuild the team and boost its morale. The team has gelled. We keep these (controversial) issues out of the team and we are focused on the cricket … We played well in New Zealand and the boys are united and they feel hungry."

Afridi also offered praise for the job done by the team's coach, Waqar Younis, and manager, Intikhab Alam, in keeping everyone together. "I, Inti bhai and Waqar Younis are trying to keep the team as a unit. Our dressing room atmosphere is much better. We are trying to keep the boys as close as we can and Alhamdulillah, we are being very successful."

In the same way as the 1992 team was practically built for Australian conditions, the 2011 version has enough versatility to conquer the subcontinent. But after the country was stripped of their rights to host the World Cup in 2009, it is an easy question to ask Afridi. Is the team happy playing in Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and possibly India? Afridi didn't hesistate: "We have very good support in India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. [And] if we win the World Cup, it would be a good message for world cricket that we want to play cricket, and maybe next time it will be held in Pakistan as well."

He admits being named World Cup captain just two weeks before the event (exactly one week ago) was difficult, but Afridi said he was "focusing on my performance. I am always enjoying my role as a captain and as a player so I didn't take it very seriously."

When the possibility of playing a certain opponent in the final was raised, his jaded face broke into a smile. "It would be great to see Pakistan and India in the final." If things go the way Pakistan expect, he will be asked this one question over and over again.

PCB general body meets after 10 years

Pakistan Cricket Board held its first meeting of general body in over a decade, on Friday. The meeting was held at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore as per clause 17 of the constitution of the PCB.

The board said it was the first time the general body had met since 1988, but one was held in Tauqir Zia's tenure in early 2000. A total of 73 members, made up of 18 full members, 53 associate members and two honorary members - former board chairmen Khalid Mehmood and Zia - attended the meeting.

General Body meeting discussed the PCB's annual report, as well as the audited accounts and budget estimates, and recommended to the governing board various measures to improve the standard of the game. Ijaz Butt also talked about the need to continue developing the women's game in Pakistan, given the achievements of Pakistan's team recently. Representatives of deaf and blind team were also involved in the meeting.

The general body is a larger, more representative body of stakeholders from around the country designed to ensure development and representation in areas such as interior Sindh and Balochistan, where the game is not as developed as in other provinces and regions. It is supposed to meet once or twice a year and acts as the parliament of the board, where the governing board is the senate.

Crunch Time for Pakistan Cricket

Shahid Afridi or Misbah-ul-Haq? Who will lead the side in upcoming mega event of ICC Cricket World Cup 2011? Still, Pakistan 15-member squad is without its skipper. Fans are supporting Afridi, while critics think Misbah is mature; they won’t forgive Afridi for giving ball to Saeed Ajmal in last over of semi-final of Twenty20 World Cup 2010 where Pakistan awarded Australia with a win inevitably in last over. Zaheer Abbas thinks that appointing captain should not be a big issue for Pakistan cricket board, showing satisfaction over Misbah’s captaincy.

Most of the players in the team were young and Misbah as a captain did remarkable job. He deserved a lot of credit for the way he handled his team besides himself performing as a player.

Shahid Afridi has played 307 ODIs scoring 6446 runs at an average of 23.78. He is spellbinder among the fans of Pakistan cricket due to his ‘combative’ mood against every bowler of World Cricket and sometimes in captaincy as well. After Younis Khan saying ‘B-Bye’ to Twenty20s, he was appointed as new skipper for T20s, and became ODI captain very soon in Asia Cup 2010. So far, Pakistan haven’t won One-Day series under Afridi’s captaincy neither the skipper has had played the remarkable innings so far, other than 124 against Bangladesh and 109 against Srilanka in Asia Cup 2010. But, It was all futile as far as Pakistan is concerned because It couldn’t help Pakistan to win Asia Cup.

Misbah-ul-Haq has shown maturity so far in ODIs, having played 59 ODIs scoring 1604 runs with an admissible average of 38.19. The main reason to support him as captain is his icy-cool character with ‘maturity’ in his decision; what Afridi lacks in. Misbah was appointed captain of the Test team after the eruption of spot-fixing controversy, when Salman Butt was sacked for being allegedly involved in the controversy. Misbah-ul-Haq led the controversy-hit team to a 0-0 draw against South Africa in UAE and 1-0 win against New Zealand down under. Not only, he led the team to a win, but also he performed by scoring 6 consecutive fifties in Test matches.

So, I recommend PCB, like Zaheer Abbas, to appoint captain who is “a performer and not an entertainer.” The on-going series between Pakistan vs New Zealand is not less than a scrutiny for Shahid Afridi. If he performs himself, he will get a role of skipper. If he doesn’t, he will enjoy the privileges of Misbah’s deputy. Best of Luck Lala!. I hope he will lead the team to 5-1 win down under.

Pakistan are playing their last Test series before the World Cup 2011. It’s really an important series for Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq, because PCB is considering him to replace Shahid Afridi as limited overs captain. To my mind, It would-be a spellbinding alternative as far as Pakistan cricket is concerned. Though Afridi has had a plenty of fans in his friend list although his career, but he is not a ace captain. Inevitably, he rattled the stumps of Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq, opener Imran Farhat and rookie wicketkeeper Adnan Akmal during a training session on the sidelines of the second and final Test against South Africa. Fast bowler Abdul Haq moved from North Waziristan in Pakistan to Abu Dhabi after being overlooked by the Pakistan selectors. The Express Tribune and Cricpak has more.

"I was called by [Pakistan coach] Waqar Younis - who gave me the title of Tagray Pathan (strong pathan) - to bowl to his batsmen. I felt honored and extremely encouraged when the batsmen seemed to struggle against my bowling," Haq said. "Younis and [bowling coach] Aqib Javed really appreciated me and later, team manager Intikhab Alam took down my contact details and invited me to the NCA." Known for his unflappable character, Misbah-ul-Haq resurrected, after three years into the national squad, in inaugural World T20 Championship. Misbah-ul-Haq proved his form to repay the selectors' faith by finishing the tournament as Pakistan's best player and almost taking them to victory in the final. He was later selected for the upcoming Test and One-Day series against South Africa. It was unremarkable series against South Africa for him, which opened the way for his selection in series against India. He scored a couple of match-saving innings versus India; scoring 464 runs in three match Test series. But before Pakistan could select him as a possible middle-order mainstay, Misbah's form slumped. He failed to get a chance in any squad in 2009 against New Zealand. He made yet another comeback, but this time as a captain against South Africa for the Tests. He was ice-cool in crisis, rescuing Pakistan on several occasions; which he also proved in recent series against South Africa.

When Misbah was selected as captain of Test squad, the decision was not gladden by ex-cricketers. They argued that non-deserving players couldn’t be appointed as a captain of national squad. Misbah rectified his appointment as a captain of national Test squad by wryly advising them ‘not to take him easy’. Later, he repaid the PCB’s faith by proving himself as a ‘gladiator’. He scored 220 in two match test series, including 3 fifties, all came in turmoil situation.

South Africa amassed 584 runs in 2nd Test, giving Pakistan 384 to avoid follow-on. Pakistan started the game well, but a sudden collapse, pressurized them. But, It was Misbah, who along with Asad Shafiq(61) and Abdur Rehman(60) managed to avoid the follow-on. It was a series that could easily stop criticism on Misbah; a man of un-flappable character.

I think Pakistan should continue with him as a captain of Test team. All you need for your team captain is that he should be of an ice-cool character in crisis, because captain can lead the team to win or loss.

Zulqarnain Haider’s sudden disappearance from international cricket : a query for Pakistan management

Depleted of wins, shorn of its match-winners, Pakistan cricket was already in turmoil, when it got another blow after sudden disappearance of Zulqarnain Haider from the team’s hotel in Dubai. Zulqarnain struck while the iron was hot by taking his passport from the team’s manager. He asked him for a new SIM. It would be a bitter pill for you to swallow that the manager known as “The Headmaster” returned him his passport back. You may call him ‘blind leading the blind’ after this irresponsible act. Zulqarnain Haider, after taking his passport, fled to London to seek an asylum. How on earth it happened that Zulqarnain Haider managed to leave the team’s hotel without informing team management? Zulqarnain landed at London Heathrow when a battle of nerves was going on between Pakistan and South Africa. Later, he spoke to media to blow a whistle; where he stated that he and his family is at risk in Pakistan for the bookies have threatened him.

PCB after, a couple of days, terminated his contract and setup a three-member investigating committee to look out into the matter. Two members of that committee are themselves responsible for not resisting to his departure and they are Security advisor and Team manager. How on earth they would say that they played fast and loose?

My Question is to the ‘basket case’ board in Pakistan, controlling the affairs of Cricket in Pakistan, is that Why have you appointed the culprits to investigate the matter? For a new SIM you just need a copy of passport; not the original one. Why did team manager give passport to Zulqarnain, just to buy a new SIM. Was the team manager himself aware of code-conduct. I’m quite sure he wouldn’t. Most of the institutions head’s in Pakistan themselves, are not aware of the rules of their institutions. Zulqarnain Haider left the hotel early in the morning. Why didn’t he inform team management, if it’s a fixing case. Why didn’t team management contact him or the police when he disappeared?

Fans are waiting for black and white, because they want to Save Pakistan Cricket. But to whom they ask; culprits will have to find the culprits? It’s common practice in Pakistan.

A couple of month back, News of the World, a british tabloid newspaper alleged Pakistani players of spot-fixing in the 4th Test at Lords. They alleged that Pakistani players bowled pre-planned no-balls on the demand of a bookie, Mazhar Majeed. Mazhar was arrested by Scotland Yard on suspicion of a conspiracy to defraud bookmakers. He was caught on camera by The News of the World claiming to have bribed Pakistan's bowlers to bowl no-balls at previously agreed moments during the Test. He claimed to the paper to have up to seven players from the side working for him, though so far only four have been named. ICC ordered PCB to take action, otherwise they would react themselves. PCB didn’t respond and at the end of the day, ICC suspended all three players involved.

Now, The Sunday Times, in their recent edition has alleged Suresh Raina of India of being involved in match-fixing. No action has been taken so far by ICC. Only BCCI thinks that he has been maligned. Where is ICC? Why Suresh Raina hasn’t been suspended yet? That’s not a ‘justice’ to game.

Younis has finally done it!

Younis Khan has finally broken the ice, after meeting board’s chairman. After the meeting, as in case of every player, he has been selected in the national squad for the UAE tour. His appearance in the international cricket, after winning World Twenty20 in 2009, had been ‘rare’. He only played the ODI series down under. After the winless tour of Australia, he was banned for life; on the recommendations of the investigating committee. Some other players were also banned and few fined. Except Mohammad Yousuf, all of them appealed against their bans and fines. All of them got their bans overturned and fines halved, but Younis Khan refused for a ‘BIG Deal’

In the domestic T20 tournament, Younis Khan, abruptly accepted the offer of meeting and after few days he was called by the board’s chairman. In the amicable meeting, he resolved his issues with the board. At a press conference later in the day in Karachi Mohsin Khan, chief selector, announced that Younis had joined the training camp in Lahore. “The chairman [PCB] has given clearance this afternoon to Younis Khan and that is good news,” Mohsin told reporters. “I discussed with the selection committee and we picked him straight away. He is fit, playing top-class cricket.”

After this incident, It can be deduced that anything is possible in Pakistan Cricket.

After the terrorism attacks on Srilankan Cricket Team in early 2009, Gaddafi Stadium went behind the eight ball. It became a spot for eateries rather than cricket ground. But, recently held domestic T20 tournament has given new life to Gaddafi Stadium.

Other day, In the final match of FaysalBank T20 Cup, Gaddafi Stadium was replete with vehement crowd. Fans came there and enjoyed the brilliance of their favorite players like Shahid Afridi, Abdul Razzaq and Mohammad Yousuf. It was packed fully to its capacity of 22,000 spectators. Every lover of the cricket in Pakistan enjoyed every moment of the game, some on T.V. and others watched it live from the stadium.

Ijaz Butt has been a bumbling chairman of Pakistan since his appointment at the seat. Although, during his tenure Pakistan have a very good record of ICC tournaments, winning ICC Twenty20 World Cup 2009, playing semis of ICC Champions Trophy 2009 and ICC Twenty20 World Cup 2010. But, he has damaged the cricket in Pakistan, blunderingly. After his appointment, Pakistan have changed 4 captains, but he was unsatisfied with every leader, he appointed. He took U-turns in following stages of his tenure.

Ijaz Butt has not only differences with Younis Khan, a senior player of Pakistan Cricket Team but he also had differences with PCB top officals. Javed Miandad and Wasim Bari were the two to whom Ijaz Butt had differences. But, At the end of the day, It all finished so quietly that no on know what happened?
Pakistan toured Australia to play a series of 3 Tests, 5ODIs and a Twenty20 in early 2010, but, they returned empty-handed. After this winless tour of Australia, PCB set up an inquiry committee to inquire the winless tour of Australia. Later, PCB's committee recommended heavy punishments for players. PCB, acting on recommendations of committee, banned two players for life and two for 1-year and others were fined heavily. Ijaz Butt issued a statement that none of the punished players would be forgiven, but later, they were all forgiven except Younis Khan. All the players later played the series in England except Rana Naved-ul-Hasan and Younis Khan
In the recent One-Day series against England, Pakistan cricket was already in a turmoil, after allegations by News of the World during 4th Test and The Sun after 3rd ODI, when, Ijaz Butt alleged Enligsh players of match-fixing. Butt termed these allegations as a conspiracy to defraud Pakistan Cricket. ECB & English players took strong notice of it and demanded an apology from Ijaz Butt, but, he refused to do so. Later, on his tour of England, he met with ECB officals and ICC, and apologized for his uncareful statement stating that he has no 'proofs' of English players involved in match-fixing. Sorry! I was not in conscious :-)

Pakistan in a dire need of a 'mensch'

The last 15 years have been very shocking for Pakistan cricket. Poor performances, controversies and to cap it all, poor management have damaged cricket in Pakistan very badly. Unfortunately, current management is a final nail in the coffin. The current PCB chairman is the worst boss of Pakistan cricket I've ever seen. His attitude towards Younis Khan, the most senior player of test team after retirement of Mohammmad Yousuf, during a very important tour of England proved that he would not sacrifice himself for the sake of Pakistan Cricket.

The recent and the most worst tour of England was repleted with controversies but the two old men in command, Ijaz Butt and Yawar Saeed failed to tackle the situation. Ijaz Butt disappeared from the center following the allegations made by News of the World on four Pakistani cricketers including the captain of test team, Salman Butt. Pakistan lost Lord's Test on 4th day and lost the series 3-1 too. It was great shock for Pakistan cricket. The Sun, later, alleged Pakistan cricket team after the tourist defeated English team in 3rd ODI at Oval.

Later, Pakistan's bumbling chairman, Ijaz Butt made it to be a chicken and egg situation. These type of funny things are now common in the current PCB management of which Yawar Saeed has resigned from the seat of manager of the team.

The recent allegations on Pakistan cricket by News of the World have damaged Pakistan cricket very much. But unfortunately, no one from Pakistan cricket management is fulfilling his duties in any way. PCB thinks that it is a 'fake' report. But, question arises that why they aren't defending it strongly? Why are they commenting on the issue, in a funny way? PCB blames ICC on every decision ICC takes for the sake of cricket, and, themselves they don't even know how to deal with it? Ijaz Butt, chairman of PCB, has nothing to say other than lame excuses and blames on ICC.

ICC on the other side believes that they are fulfilling all responsibilities. ICC suspended all three alleged players of Pakistan. PCB blamed them of this action. PCB chairman replied that he would neither resign nor take action against any players.

English gutter media found it to be a better time for getting popularity and alleged Pakistan cricket of match-fixing. The allegations by The Sun after a much-needed win for Pakistan in 3rd ODI at Oval proved that the 'conspiracy' against Pakistan cricket is also possible.

At the end of day, It is Pakistan cricket which becomes victim of match-fixing allegations and there is no one to defend it.

PCB performance in match-fixing scandal

It all started when a local newspaper of Britain, News of the World, alleged Pakistan cricketers of match-fixing, involving four Pakistani players in the story. It included, captain of Test team, Salman Butt and other three were young-pacer Mohammad Aamer, wicket-keeper Kamran Akmal and Mohammad Asif. After that shocking news, PCB started to perform as a 'spectator' in the show. And at the end of the day, ICC took action and suspended all the three players leaving Kamran, after he got clearance from Scotland Yard, Investigation Agency in London.

PCB put the whole case in High Commission's court to play with. The disappearance of PCB's chairman, just after the News of the World's report, proved that PCB isn't serious about the match-fixing scandal and is taking it lightly.

The appearance of Yasir Hammed video in the very next edition of News of the World, and once again poor show from PCB, proved that PCB is still expecting any 'miracle' in the show.

Pakistan began their long & worst-ever England tour with a win in two T20 Internationals, beating Australia in a very easy way. It followed with the Test series against Australia, which was in fact the beginning of 'Test' for controversial Pakistan team. Pakistan lost the first game against Aussies, their 13th win against Pakistan. But Pakistan came back strongly, beating Australia after the interval of 15 years.

After losing two test matches against England, Pakistan called back Mohammad Yousuf, who proved out to be match-winning for them in the third test at Oval. Pakistan lads were once again flying high. They were confident of beating England at Lord's. But, defeat is the ultimate 'result' of this alleged team.

Twenty20 will 'finish' Pakistan cricket - Mohammad Yousuf

Mohammad Yousuf has issued a stark warning of the impending dangers of too much Twenty20 cricket, insisting that it is "necessary" that Pakistan plays as little of the format as possible. Otherwise, the Pakistan captain told Cricinfo, he believes the format will "finish Pakistan's cricket."

Yousuf's counsel comes in the wake of Pakistan's defeat to Australia in the first Test in Melbourne, where their batsmen struggled on a placid pitch in a 170-run loss. Australia declared twice in the Test, but Pakistan were bowled out for 258 and 251 - the second after being 170-3. But his words come in a broader context: those totals continued a long run of sub-par performances by the batsmen in the Test arena; in 14 Test innings now, they have crossed 350 only twice.

They have struggled with their openers and their No.3 batsmen, and have been caught in a number of Test collapses through the year in Sri Lanka, New Zealand and now Australia. As in Melbourne, a number of batsmen have settled in, before getting themselves out. The failure, Yousuf believes, comes from Twenty20 cricket.

Pakistan have left out Younis Khan from a 16-man squad for the three-Test series against Australia, beginning in late December. Younis had not informed the selection committee or board of his availability for the series, having relinquished the captaincy and his place in the side after an ODI series loss to New Zealand last month.

Mohammad Yousuf, captain in Younis' place, will continue to lead the team in Australia. Yousuf's brief captaincy experience, incidentally, includes two Tests as leader on the 2004-05 tour to Australia; Pakistan lost both Tests though they were markedly improved from the side that lost the first Test at Perth by 491 runs under Inzamam-ul-Haq. ICC World XI could play Pakistan to raise funds

The financial crunch currently engulfing the PCB, a fallout of the Lahore terror attacks on the Sri Lankan team in March and the subsequent banishment of Pakistan as an international cricket venue, dominated proceedings at the first meeting between an ICC task force and the board in Dubai. As a result, there has emerged the possibility of a series between Pakistan and an ICC World XI to help raise funds to sustain cricket in the terror-struck country.

The PCB gave a detailed presentation to the five-man task force about how it has been hit by the terror attacks, and particularly how revenue from a broadcasting deal with Ten Sports will take a big hit not only because teams will not play in Pakistan in the near future, but also because ties with India are currently on hold. Losses of up to US$125 million have been claimed by the PCB as a series of tours have been relocated, postponed and cancelled. In just over a year, Pakistan has also lost hosting rights of the 2008 Champions Trophy and the 2011 World Cup because of security concerns.

A 580-run stand for the second wicket, a first-class record, between Water and Power Development Authority's Rafatullah Mohmand and Aamer Sajjad was the highlight of their tame draw against Sui Southern Gas Corporation at the Sheikupura Stadium. Rafatullah, who almost made it to the national squad in 2006, went on to a career-best unbeaten 302 while Sajjad fell 11 short of a triple century as the pair bettered the existing mark of 576 between Sanath Jayasuriya and Roshan Mahanama against India in Colombo. Tallest cricketer of the world.

Mohammad Irfan (DOB June 6, 1982) is a Pakistani left-arm medium-fast bowler, hailing from Punjab. His height is a reported 7 foot 1 inches, which would make him the tallest player to play first class cricket.
He made his first class debut in the QEA Trophy in October 2009 playing for Khan Research Laboratories. He bowled economically but was unable to take any wickets in a high scoring game. In his second first class game, Irfan took 7-113 in the second innings and 9 wickets overall in the match. His first wicket in professional cricket was of young Pakistani international batsmen Ahmed Shehzad. He also took the wicket of Imran Farhat and injured Hasan Raza with a bouncer before taking his wicket.

Akram's Wife passes away

Huma, the wife of former Pakistani pacer, died on Sunday morning following heart & kidney complications. She was admitted to Chennai Appolo Hospital in an emergeny situation when she was going to Sigapore for Medical Treatment on Air Ambulance. Besides her husband, Huma is survived by sons Taimur and Akbar. Wasim played 104 Tests in an illustrious 17-year career before retiring in 2003 with 414 wickets. He was the first bowler to achieve 500-wicket landmark in One-day Internationals and claimed 502 wickets from 368 ODIs.

Misbah axed from all the three forms

Misbah-ul-Haq's international revival seems to have come to an end, after he was left out from the squads in all three formats for Pakistan's upcoming series of ODIs, T20Is and Tests against New Zealand in the Middle East and New Zealand. Pakistan's selection committee have seemingly covered as many bases as possible in the three formats, recalling several forgotten names and forming an usually large 18-man Test squad.

Misbah's form has been poor in all three formats over the last year, in contrast to 2007, when he reignited his dormant international career in sensational fashion at the World Twenty20 in South Africa and then on a tour to India. The emergence of Umar Akmal as a middle order prospect has, for now at least, brought Misbah's second innings to a close.

Pakistani Squad for UAE Series

The Pakistan selectors will meet on October 22 to finalise Pakistan's squad for next month's limited-overs series against New Zealand in the UAE. However, Mohammad Asif has been ruled out of the squad for the upcoming series.
Asif was deported from the UAE last year, having spent 19 days in detention at Dubai Airport, after he was found to be in possession of a small amount of opium. Though criminal charges were not pressed - reportedly after high-level contacts between the government of Pakistan and the UAE monarchy - the court order called for his immediate deportation and banned him from entering the UAE until further notice.

Younis Khan resigns as Pakistan cricket captain

ISLAMABAD - Younis Khan has resigned as the Pakistan cricket captain following allegations of match fixing levelled against the team after its semi-final loss in the Champions Trophy.

Younis tendered his resignation to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ejaz Butt Tuesday, the Online news agency reported.

Younis was apparently fed up with the allegations levelled by the National Assembly Standing Committee for Sports against him following the semi-final defeat against New Zealand in South Africa.

Younis said that the chairman of the committee is spreading false rumours adding it is now very difficult for him to continue in such thorny circumstances. He said that he was hurt but still played for the national interest of the country.

ICC and PCB resolve 2011 World Cup dispute

The ICC and the PCB have resolved their dispute over the staging of the 2011 World Cup. The PCB, which was stripped of its rights to host the tournament in the aftermath of the attack on Sri Lankan cricketers in Lahore, will retain its host fees and also receive payment as additional compensation for the loss of hosting rights. The two parties reached an agreement during a meeting between the ICC president David Morgan and the PCB chairman Ijaz Butt in Dubai. It is expected that the settlement will be signed later today, at which point the PCB will withdraw its legal proceedings against the ICC.

Australia Cricket Team announced for Champions Trophy

Captain Ricky Ponting, vice captain Michael Clarke and six other members of the Australia team at risk of losing the Ashes were named Saturday in the country’s 15-man Champions Trophy limited-overs squad.

Wicketkeeper Brad Haddin, Michael Hussey, allrounder Shane Watson and bowlers Ben Hilfenhaus, Mitchell Johnson and Peter Siddle were also included in the squad for the Champions Trophy in South Africa from Sept. 22-Oct. 5.

Australia, as defending champions, will play its first match in Group A against West Indies on Sept. 26. It plays India on Sept. 28 and Pakistan on Sept. 30 to complete the first round.

The one-day event will be Australia’s next assignment after the current tour of England. In the deciding test, Australia trails by 172 runs on first innings, with England to resume its second innings Saturday at 58-3.

England regain Ashes with huge win

The England players mob each other, enormous celebrations as they've regained the Ashes after losing 5-0 in Australia in 2006-07. Andrew Flintoff went straight to Hussey to give him a handshake, then a big hug between Freddie and Harmison. Centurion on debut Trott has collected a stump, Flintoff has one. Here come the Australians to shake hands. Ricky Ponting cuts a forlorn figure with his cut lip as he leads his men out, but it's congratulations all round for England, they've won 2-1. Flintoff leads England off with a stump in hand, leads them up the race to healthy applause. There's Kevin Pietersen in the dressing rooms, the whole England squad looks to be there, they've all played a part. The Australians are still standing out on the field, waiting for the presentations.

LAHORE: The 15-man team for the forthcoming Champions Trophy has been announced here on Friday.

Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Ijaz Butt along with chief selector Iqbal Qasim announced the national team at a press conference here in the afternoon.

All-rounder Abdul Razzaq has been dropped due to injury while fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar could not make his place in the team.

Senior batsman Younis Khan will remain the captain of the team while all-rounder Shahid Khan Afridi will deputise him on the tour.
