Pakistan tour to New Zealand - Preview

Pakistan down under after a span of an epoch. Last time, It was partly held in UAE where they played One-Day Internationals. Pakistan will play a series of 3 T20s, 2 Tests and 6 ODIs with New Zealand. It is an important series for either teams, as, preparations are in full-swing for the World Cup 2011. Pakistan are already 0-1 in T20, but as a fan of unpredictable team, I still feel that there will be something more ‘unpredictable’; and that must be Pakistan’s win. Kiwis, as compared to Pakistan, have not been a good side, this year; white-washed by Bengal Tigers, and then by Indians in ODI series. So, Pakistan must not forget that they are playing with side, which is already in turmoil; any loss would be ‘fatal’ for Pakistan.

Overlooked talent of Pakistan; resurfaced in Emirates

Avoided in Pakistan, Abdul Haq, a 27-year old fast bowling talent of Pakistan belongs to North Waziristan; area known for drone strikes, not for cricket. Few days back, during UAE tour, he was called by Pakistan team management to bowl to Pakistan middle-order batsmen.

Inevitably, he rattled the stumps of Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq, opener Imran Farhat and rookie wicketkeeper Adnan Akmal during a training session on the sidelines of the second and final Test against South Africa. Fast bowler Abdul Haq moved from North Waziristan in Pakistan to Abu Dhabi after being overlooked by the Pakistan selectors. The Express Tribune and Cricpak has more.

"I was called by [Pakistan coach] Waqar Younis - who gave me the title of Tagray Pathan (strong pathan) - to bowl to his batsmen. I felt honored and extremely encouraged when the batsmen seemed to struggle against my bowling," Haq said. "Younis and [bowling coach] Aqib Javed really appreciated me and later, team manager Intikhab Alam took down my contact details and invited me to the NCA." Haq has played with frontline Pakistan bowler Umar Gul in Peshawar but complained that due to the situation in North Waziristan, he never got proper guidance.
